Bridges & CEREC Same Day Crowns

Bridges & CEREC Same Day Crowns

It's critical to replace missing teeth to keep the adjacent teeth and jaw healthy. A bridge is a type of dental procedure used to replace teeth that are lost by covering the teeth on either side of the missing space. A pontic, or prosthetic tooth, then fills the gap. Since the material “bridges” over the gap left by a lost tooth or teeth, they are termed bridges.

The following are some of the advantages of dental bridges:

  • Helps you chew and speak normally
  • Improves your smile by filling in empty spaces
  • Maintains the position of your remaining teeth

The bridge procedure involves preparing adjacent teeth for crowns, followed by taking impressions of your teeth either traditionally or digitally. The impression is sent to a milling machine or dental laboratory for fabrication. You will leave your first appointment with a temporary bridge, and the final bridge will be delivered at your next visit after ensuring proper contours and fit.

Crowns and bridges are two dental techniques that are closely connected. A crown is a “shell” covering your tooth and protecting it while also improving esthetics. A bridge substitutes a lost tooth, and each adjacent tooth receives a crown to reinforce the replacement tooth.

Crowns and bridges are very durable and with proper care will last many years, but like other dental restorations, they may need to be replaced at some point.

A crown (or cap) is a covering that fits over your natural tooth and restores it to a natural shape and size. A crown will protect and strengthen tooth structure that may not be able to tolerate a regular filling. There are several types of crowns that can be done (metal, porcelain-metal, ceramic, or zirconia). Your dentist will decide which material will suit your individual needs the best and last the longest. Ideally, crowns will be made to match the same shape, size, and color of your natural teeth, giving you a beautiful smile.

Reasons for Crowns:

  • Protect teeth that have been damaged or fractured
  • Correct teeth that are malformed or undersized
  • Decayed teeth
  • Cover large fillings that may not support the tooth long-term
  • Reinforce root canal treated teeth
  • Cosmetic cases

Bridges & CEREC Same Day Crowns

At Belmont Dental, we mostly do all-ceramic crowns (CEREC) in our office, which helps our patients save valuable time. CEREC crowns are typically completed in a single 1.5-2 hour visit, eliminating the need for a temporary crown or a second visit. The natural appearance, color, and durability make CEREC crowns popular. Occasionally we will need to separate the crown into two appointments if the all-ceramic material is not the best option for your tooth.

CEREC Crowns

Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic (CEREC) has revolutionized the entire procedure of placement of dental crowns as they can be fabricated and fitted onto a patient's teeth in a single-day procedure. With the same-day CEREC crowns, high-resolution images of the patient's tooth are captured by “scanning” the tooth onto a computer and a new dental crown is fabricated or “milled” and seated on to the tooth in just a single dental visit.

Benefits of CEREC Same-Day Crowns

CEREC technology was created to make patients' dental experience as convenient and pain-free as possible. The major benefits achieved with CEREC crowns include the following:

  • The treatment can be performed in a single session at the dental office
  • More affordable
  • Digital impressions are obtained with an intraoral scanner, eliminating the need for impressions
  • CEREC crowns are durable and long-lasting
  • Restores tooth to its fuller function, appearance, and strength

The procedure of Placing CEREC Crowns

  • The dentist obtains digital pictures of the patient's tooth.
  • Using CEREC 3D software, the digital images are transformed to create a digital model of the tooth.
  • The milling machine creates the customized ceramic dental crown in about 15 minutes.
  • The new crown is polished and fitted in position to ensure proper occlusion.
